We offer a competitive benefits package. Eligible employees can take advantage of many programs and services on the first day of employment. Eligibility is determined by work schedule and position classification.

401(k) Plan
The first of the month following 90 days of employment, all employees are eligible to participate in the United Bankshares, Inc. Savings and Stock Investment Plan. This offers employees the opportunity to prepare for retirement years by saving money on a pre-tax basis.

In addition, after one year of employment, eligible employees will begin to receive the Bank’s employer match. The Bank will match a portion of employee’s deferrals on up to 4%. You are not only 100% on your deferral but you are 100% vested on the company’s match from the first day you receive that contribution.

Our plan accepts rollover contributions from another qualified plan and allows loans and hardships withdrawals.

Medical Insurance
United Bank offers you a choice of participating in a PPO or HMO plan. Both medical plans include a prescription drug plan. The company and employee share the premium for medical insurance.

Dental Insurance
United Bank offers a dental plan that provides care on a routine basis as well having coverage on basic and major procedures. Orthodontia coverage is available under this plan for children. The company and employee share the premium for dental insurance.

Vision Insurance
United Bank automatically enrolls you at no cost in the Vision Plan if you elect to participate in one of the medical plans offered. It offers annual eye exams and discounts on contact lenses or glasses if you utilize participating doctors and locations.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA’s)
United Bank offers Dependent Care and Medical Reimbursement accounts. These FSA accounts allow employees to set aside and use pre-tax dollars to pay certain predictable expenses for dependent and medical care. Part-time employees may participate in these plans.

Life/Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)
Life insurance coverage is provided to full-time employees, at 2.5 times their annual base salary up to a maximum benefit of $1,000,000. AD&D benefits equal to the level of the life insurance benefit is also provided. Coverage is offered at no cost to the employee.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
LTD coverage is provided to all full-time employees. LTD insurance provides continued income in the event an employee becomes disabled and cannot continue to work for an extended period of time. LTD coverage pays 60% of base monthly income up to a maximum monthly benefit of $10,000. Coverage is offered at no cost to the employee.

Pre-paid Legal
The Pre-paid Legal employee benefit provides your entire family with affordable legal access to protect your legal rights. Part-time employees are also eligible for this benefit. This is an after-tax benefit that is paid by the employee through payroll deductions.

Identity Theft
This protection can be purchased as a rider to the pre-paid legal policy at a reduced cost or as a stand-alone policy at a higher premium. Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in America. The identity Theft Shield provides coverage for employees and spouses/domestic partners for full-time and part-time employees. This is an after-tax benefit that is paid by the employee through payroll deductions.

Supplemental Life Insurance
Full-time employees may purchase additional individual life insurance policies for you, your spouse and/or children at group rates. This insurance will be in addition to what United Bank currently offers to all full-time employees.

Long Term Care
All employees may purchase a policy for yourself or anyone in your family including parents and in-laws. Long-term care refers to the day-in, day-out assistance a person needs in the event of a chronic illness or disability that lasts for more than 90 days that does not allow the person to care for him/herself.

United offers several types of paid and unpaid time off for eligible employees to utilize.

Employee Financial Services

Special financial products and services, including:

  • Checking Account with no minimum balance and no monthly service charges.
  • Free personalized checks.
  • Free 3x5 safe deposit box.
  • Single Signature American Express Traveler’s Cheques at no fee.
  • Fees are waived for up to 6 cashier’s checks and wire transfers per year.
  • Discounted rates on auto and personal loans.1

Employee Stock Purchase Plan
The Employee Stock Purchase Plan is intended to provide employees with an opportunity to acquire a proprietary interest in United Bankshares, Inc. by allowing the purchase of common stock through payroll deduction.

Employee Referral Program
The Employee Referral Program offers current employees an incentive for recommending qualified applicants for employment at the Bank. Currently, referral reward amounts range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the needs of the Bank. The amount of the reward may change without notice.

Education Assistance
It is the Bank’s intent to assist in furthering the education of its employees by providing quality in-house training programs, external conference and seminars and non-college credit courses, as well as a competitive tuition reimbursement program for undergraduate and graduate courses. Both full-time and part-time employees are eligible for assistance.
