CONSUMER PRIVACY POLICY

At United, we are committed to protecting our customers’ information.


OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

At United, preserving the confidentiality of our customers' information is one of our most important responsibilities. Protecting each person's right to privacy is fundamental to the quality of customer relationships. Your concerns about privacy are considered in all aspects of our business and in all of the products and services we offer. First and foremost, we want you to know: WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION TO ANYONE.

This statement of our privacy policy covers personal financial information about a consumer or a consumer's current or former relationship with United. We hope this statement will help you understand how we use and protect your personal financial information.


THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect personal financial information from the following sources:

  • Information you provide to us on applications and other oral, written, or electronic communications;
  • Information about your transactions and account experience with us, our affiliates or others; and
  • Information from a consumer reporting agency.


CONFIDENTIALITY, SECURITY AND INTEGRITY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We protect the privacy of your personal financial information in several ways: through technology, by establishing detailed security procedures and internal controls and by making sure our employees understand the crucial role they play in safeguarding customer information.

We limit access to your personal financial information to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to protect personal financial information.


THE INFORMATION WE SHARE

Affiliates

United Bankshares, Inc. is a group of affiliated companies dedicated to providing you a full array of financial products and services. We may share the personal financial information we collect about current and former customers among our affiliates so that our affiliates may market their products and services to you.

Unless you tell us not to, we may share among our affiliates personal financial information about you, including:

  • Information we obtain from your applications and other forms, such as your income or your marital status;
  • Information we obtain from a consumer report, such as your credit score or credit history; and
  • Information we obtain from outside sources to verify representations made by you, such as your employment history or loan or credit card balances.

How to limit information shared about you. If you prefer that we not share this information with others in our group of affiliated companies, you may direct us not to share this information by contacting us in any of the ways indicated below under the heading, Respecting Your Choices.

Note that your direction that we not share information among our affiliates will apply only to certain information about you that we might otherwise share with our affiliated group. We may share other personal financial information about you among our affiliates, such as your name and address, and your account balance, payment history, credit card usage and other information about your transactions with us, and other information as permitted by law.

Service Providers

We may share personal financial information with companies that work for us to provide products and services for you, such as companies that print your checks, process your credit card transactions or mail your account statements to you. We may also share personal financial information with companies that market our products and services to you. As appropriate, we may disclose to such companies information such as your name, address, account balance and account history.

All companies that work for us or act on our behalf are contractually obligated to keep the information that we share with them confidential and use the information only to provide the products and services that we have asked them to provide.


Other Nonaffiliates

Because we value our customer relationship with you, we do not disclose any personal financial information about you to nonaffiliated third parties, except as noted above in the Service Providers paragraph and except as permitted by law. WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION TO ANYONE.

United offers a wide array of financial products and services and we want to let you know about those that may be of interest to you. If you would rather not receive marketing offers by direct mail, telemarketing and/or email, please notify us in one of the following ways:

MAINTAINING ACCURATE INFORMATION

United is committed to maintaining accurate information about our customers. If you believe that your account information is incomplete or inaccurate, please let us know immediately. We will take prompt action to make the appropriate corrections.
